Recover Ableton project, help!!

Postby pomDeter » October 10th, 2011, 1:47 pm

I've got an Ableton project that's not opening, all I get is this...

It's the same if I open from ableton or from the als.
The project's not too big, about 15 tracks and a scattering of vsts. CPU load was aroud 20%.
It did crash when one vst(electri-q) locked up but it recovered ok.

Has anyone had this before and did you fix it or recover anything?

Oh, it's ableton 8.0.something. Read somewhere that an upgrade might fix it but that's no use for right now, I've a weekend challenge to win. ;)

so if you know which vst crashes, go to the vst folder and rename the appropriate dll of the vst. if you don't know which file it is rename the whole vst folder.

open ableton and the project again. you won't have any vsts for that moment but at least you'll be able to open the project. remove the vst refences or that specific reference at the project, then save the project and close ableton again.
rename the vst folder to the original name and start ableton again.

hope that helps.

Yeah - as Marc said - it's probably the VST (a crack i'll bet). A workaround fix to recover the track is to repoint the VST folder to something in normal Ableton and then try and open the file - output any stems and MIDI files and then reload into a fresh file. Remembering to put the VST folder back in.

YES!! ThankyouThankyouThankyou!!

I tried something along those lines, I moved suspect vsts out to another folder one at a time to find the culprit, no joy. Even moved the audio files and still no luck. Was just away to give up and "sacrifice one to the muses" when I tried renaming the VST directory and BINGO!! Removed a few vsts(seems it was electri-q, 7 instances of it was the problem) and now I'm back in action.

Cheers! :) :)
